Does ATI Detect Cheating on Proctored Exams?

Yes — ATI proctored exams are built to catch it. Remote attempts record webcam video, audio and your screen and use automated behaviour analysis, on-campus attempts are watched by a proctor, and item banks are secure so recycled "answer keys" circulating online are often wrong or out of date. Flags are reviewed by your nursing program, which decides the consequence.

What the proctoring software actually records

ATI partners with Proctorio for remote proctoring and describes it as a platform that uses machine learning, with video, audio and screen recording among its secure exam settings (ATI Remote Proctoring FAQ). In practice that means an identity check, a room scan, a locked browser tab, and a recording your institution can review afterwards. Exactly which settings are switched on is chosen by your school, not by you.

Faces leaving — or joining — the webcam frame
Voices in the room, including someone reading a question aloud
Switching windows, copying text, or a second display staying active
Long gaps of looking away from the screen
Answer patterns that do not match the time spent on items

A flag is a prompt for a human to look, not a verdict. Innocent explanations are common: a pet, a sibling, a bad camera angle. Your program reviews the recording and applies its own academic integrity policy, which can range from a conversation to a zero or a disciplinary hearing.

Why shared "ATI answer keys" are a bad bet

Secure ATI assessments are versioned and re-equated, and retakes are distinct forms. Question sets posted on file-sharing sites are usually a mix of half-remembered stems, wrong keys, and items from an edition that is no longer in use — so you memorise the wrong answer and still fail. They also make you dependent on recall instead of the clinical reasoning that the NCLEX will test later.
