What the ATI TEAS Version 7 Science section actually covers

ATI's TEAS Version 7 organizes Science around three broad skill areas. Here's what each one tests and how to study for it.
1

Human Anatomy and Physiology

By far the largest share of the Science section. Expect questions on body systems and structures — like identifying joint types, tracing blood flow to and from organs, and distinguishing gray matter from white matter — at the level of a standard A&P course.

2

Life and Physical Sciences

Foundational biology (cells, genetics, ecosystems) and chemistry/physics concepts (states of matter, basic reactions, simple physics principles) that support the anatomy content.

3

Scientific Reasoning

Understanding the scientific method and experimental design — why a well-controlled experiment needs a control group and one isolated variable — plus the falsifiability principle: experiments can disprove, but never fully "prove," a hypothesis.

Sample ATI TEAS Version 7 Science questions with rationales

These are five real questions from our 94-question Science bank — the same format and difficulty you'll see on the TEAS Version 7 exam, with the correct answer and rationale shown.
The "gray matter" of the brain is largely made up of which of the following?
A. Corpus callosum
B. Neuron cell axons
C. Meninges
D. Neuron cell bodies

Rationale: Gray matter gets its color from densely packed neuron cell bodies, as opposed to white matter, which is made of myelinated axons. The corpus callosum is a white-matter tract, and the meninges are protective membranes, not brain tissue.

The hip is an example of which of the following types of joints?
A. Pivot
B. Ball-and-socket
C. Hinge
D. Gliding

Rationale: The hip joint is formed by the rounded head of the femur fitting into the cup-shaped acetabulum of the pelvis, the classic structure of a ball-and-socket joint.

Which of the following structures drains oxygen-depleted blood from the kidneys?
A. Urethra
B. Renal vein
C. Ureter
D. Renal artery

Rationale: Veins carry blood away from organs back toward the heart. The renal vein carries blood away from the kidney; the renal artery does the opposite. The urethra and ureter carry urine, not blood.

Experiments cannot validate hypotheses, only falsify them. The statement above can be restated in which of the following ways?
A. Until disproved, an explanation for an observation is valid.
B. Proving a hypothesis exempts it from further testing.
C. A hypothesis that has not been falsified remains provisional.
D. Certain concepts cannot be subjected to direct experimentation.

Rationale: This reflects Karl Popper's falsifiability principle: experiments can only disprove, not prove, a hypothesis, so any hypothesis that survives testing is only tentatively accepted, never definitively "proven."

In order to determine the effects of energy drinks on women's running speed, which further test would best support this conclusion?
A. Repeat the experiment, giving the women two different energy drinks.
B. Repeat the same experiment, using 300 men.
C. Repeat the experiment, having half of the women run 2 miles and the other half run 5 miles.
D. Repeat the experiment, giving half of the women water and the other half the energy drink.

Rationale: A well-controlled experiment needs a control group that isolates the one variable being tested. Giving half the group water and the other half the energy drink directly tests whether the drink itself affects running speed.

ATI TEAS Version 7 Science FAQ

1

How many questions are on the ATI TEAS Version 7 Science section?

ATI's TEAS Version 7 Science section is typically around 44 scored questions plus a handful of unscored pretest items, though the exact count and time limit can vary by test form — confirm the current details in your official ATI registration materials.

2

What score do I need on TEAS Science?

Nursing programs set their own minimum TEAS scores, and Science is scored as part of your overall Adjusted Individual Total Score. Ask your program what threshold they require.

3

Is this the same test as ATI's official TEAS Version 7 exam?

No. This is an independent, original study resource written to cover the same content areas and question style as ATI's TEAS Version 7 Science section. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a reproduction of Assessment Technologies Institute's proprietary exam content.

4

How is this different from the practice assessments inside my ATI account?

Your ATI Testing account's official practice assessments should be your primary prep. This site is a free, unlimited supplement — one question at a time with an instant rationale, no login required.

5

What should I study first if I'm running out of time?

Prioritize Human Anatomy and Physiology — it's the largest sub-area by far, so mastering body systems (especially cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and nervous system structures) covers the most ground per hour studied.
